BROADCASTER Cathy Mohlahlana has recovered from Covid-19.
The 34-year-old Newzroom Afrika anchor is back on air, but said her recovery wasn’t easy.
“Honestly, keeping a positive mindset throughout the recovery process and telling myself I would overcome the virus helped me a lot,” she said.
“The only thing I struggled with was my mental health because when you test positive, people around you start to worry.
“You can’t help but worry because you get overwhelmed with messages of concern.”
Cathy said although the virus has taken many lives, she was not scared of dying.
“I was lucky that my symptoms were mild. Being well-informed about the virus helped and prevented me from panicking that I might die,” she said.
“I know there’s a high recovery rate, but the possibility of dying is not impossible. It becomes real when you’re recovering. Steaming and ensuring you take your medication is very important.”

Cathy said she has been careful since the virus hit our shores, but as someone who interacted with other people on a daily basis, her chances of getting it were always high.
Cathy, who also hosts SAfm’s mid-morning talk show, said she couldn’t wait to be vaccinated.
“Unfortunately, I missed the last age group by an inch and I’m waiting for September to be eligible,” she said.
However, Cathy said people shouldn’t be too quick to judge those who were against the vaccine and should rather listen to their fears.
“We should hear the questions they have and get experts to answer them. There’s a lot of misinformation about the virus and the vaccine out there.
“I believe the only way we can tackle that and get real information out there is by educating people,” she said.
