IT'S been two months since Cathy Mohlahlana dumped Newzroom Afrika, and now her co-host Thembekile Mrototo has followed suit.
The news anchor made the announcement on social media and said Wednesday, 31 January would be his last day.
“Today is my last day @Newzroom405. I have resigned from the channel and my last show will be at 6pm tonight. Thank you to all the colleagues who’ve contributed to the many wonderful broadcasts since 2021.
“Thank you. THANK YOU for watching and being so generous with your feedback,” he wrote.
However, it seems he won’t be gone for long. When responding to one of his followers on X, he said he’d be back on TV before the elections start.

Cathy, with whom he co-hosted News@Prime, announced her resignation on 30 November.
At the time, Thembekile wrote her a heartfelt message saying he would miss her.
“My dearest @CathyMohlahlana, hard to believe that you’re actually leaving. It’s been such a joy sitting next to you these past six months. I’ll miss your laughter and those fierce interviews. Thank you for the love and encouragement. Always,” he wrote.
Thembekile started his TV career on eNCA where he hosted weekday show, News Grid. In 2021, he left eNCA and joined Newzroom Afrika.
He is also currently a newsreader on 947.
