SABC2 soapie Muvhango is celebrating a big milestone.

The show is celebrating 25 years this month, having first aired on 7 April 1997.

Muvhango’s publicist Thanduxolo Jindela said the celebration will see them go with the theme: “Ri ya Hayani” which is Venda for “going back home”.

They will take viewers down memory lane, with some characters from the earlier seasons making cameo appearances.

“WOM (Word of Mouth) has been planning for the past 12 months as this is a silver celebration with much-anticipated surprise reveals.

“As the year unfolds, we will have something exciting each month, including the major drop later in the year as we close the celebration,” said Thanduxolo.

He said they are already planning for the next 25 years and more.

“The next 25 years are for growth, new talent and of course telling the African story the way Africans know it. Almost every star in the country was once on Muvhango and we will continue producing African stars,” he said.

Word Of Mouth Pictures founder and executive producer of Muvhango, Duma Ndlovu said viewers are in for some excitement as the show will celebrate someone who has been with the show for a long time.

“This silver jubilee will be a celebration of 25 years of bringing tears, smiles and laughter to homes across the country. Viewers are in for exciting stuff.

“The year-long celebrations will mark the anniversary of the soapie by engaging passionate fans and igniting audiences’ excitement. We have many exciting new things that will be announced soon, which will include a chance for viewer interactions. We will also shoot scenes in Venda to celebrate our 25th anniversary, Ri ya Hayani,” he said.

A source close to Muvhango told Daily Sun actresses Marah Louw, Lillian Dube and Florence Masebe are some of the people who will make appearances.
