MUSICIAN Goodwill Malinga, popularly known as Dr Malinga, was criticised by social media users after his performance at the African National Congress (ANC) 112 birthday celebration.
Social media users slammed him for performing at the ANC event after he had previously criticised the party for lack of service delivery in his kasi Hammanskraal, Tshwane.
Social media users said Malinga once vowed never to perform at an ANC event again, but he gave a thrilling performance over the weekend.
ANC was celebrating its 112th anniversary on Saturday, 13 January, at the Mbombela Stadium, and Malinga was among the artists paid to entertain the ANC members.
Others said he was a hypocrite for not standing by his words, while others felt he was talking for clout.
When Daily Sun contacted Malinga, he asked whether people said he shouldn’t work.

“In other words, they are saying that I'm not going to work anymore," he said.
“Tell the people of South Africa that Dr Malinga is a businessman. He sings for whoever pays him to sing."
He said he would deliver if anyone hired him for a performance.
“I can sing for everyone, and I sing for anyone who gives me business. If you call me in your room and say on Thursday sing for me alone, I will sing for you,” he said.
The Sengizwile hitmaker said he'll also sing for people in prison and said he doesn't owe anyone an explanation.
“If it was possible for a prisoner to call me and ask me to perform for them, I would go and work for it."
“That’s why I sing to any political party that calls me. If Vodacom calls me, I will talk about Vodacom, if MTN calls me, I will talk about MTN. I respect my clients and the main thing is to support my family,” he said.
