MRS South Africa semi-finalist Lesego Nkuna believes her selection in the Mrs South Africa 2023 beauty pageant is a big win for Mzansi’s family structures.
The mum of three from Tshwane wants to promote responsible parenting and co-parenting.
The 37-year-old beauty queen said her participation is a testament to her unwavering commitment to empowering parents who are no longer in relationships or married.
Lesego encourages parents to not just be present in their children’s lives, but to also play a meaningful role.
“I’m alarmed by the recent statistics of South Africa which report that 68,7% of children who were born in the last two decades live in single-parents' households.
“My participation in the competition provides a unique platform to amplify the importance of responsible parenting, particularly for single parents,” she said.
Lesego, who is also an entrepreneur, believes that responsible parenting is not just about providing for children financially, but also being emotionally present and involved in their lives.

“I’m humble and honoured to have been selected to participate in the Mrs South Africa pageant. This platform will enable me to amplify important messages about responsible parenting.
“I’m excited to be part of this amazing journey. As a parent, I know how challenging it can be to raise children and I want to use this platform to inspire other single parents to never give up and to always put their children first,” she said.
Lesego said she believes that through her participation in this prestigious event, she can help to break down the stigma associated with single parenthood and promote the importance of co-parenting.
“My passion for responsible parenting and advocacy for co-parenting is infectious, and I’m excited to use this platform to amplify my message. We should not use our work commitment as an excuse to not be responsible parents. As a successful businesswoman, I know the importance of balancing work and family life," she said.
She said she wants to show other parents that it is possible to achieve success in both areas of life, and that responsible parenting is the foundation for happy and healthy families.
