MRS South Africa 2023 semi-finalist, Lesego Tibane-Nkuna, is going all out to empower people.

The 37-year-old from Mamelodi, Tshwane, told Daily Sun that through the seminars she's been hosting around Gauteng schools, she has seen young people experiencing challenges in their lives.

She said many young people are already into drugs and alcohol.

"So far, I have been to three schools where I have given motivational talks to pupils and also donated school shoes, sanitary towels and roll-ons. All these were raised in a personal capacity with the help of my network, family and friends,” she said.

Lesego said she learnt that there is so much they need to be doing to bring change.

"We underestimate the challenges that our children are facing at primary school. I was shocked to learn and witness that at that age kids have already been exposed to alcohol and drugs. Some even come to school drunk,” she said.

Lesego said when she was doing a module for her master’s degree, she learnt about Silicon Valley and they were told that if they had never failed in their business, then they wouldn’t be funded for the next one.

She said this stayed with her as some people are afraid to try again once they have failed, because the 'we live in a world that expects perfection'.

"I have failed immensely in both my personal life and career and by society standards, I should still be in that corner. So, I say, let’s be a world of second, third and many chances,” she said.

She said the process of Mrs South Africa has been challenging, yet empowering.

"It is not a beauty pageant; it has turned into a life transforming journey that is teaching business skills, networking skills and life skills. To date, these skills have empowered me to make presentations and secure sponsors for this leg of the competition, said Lesego.
