THE HOMEGROUND door may be closing, but Minnie Dlamini is ready to kick down the next one with a bang.

And, it promises to be the talk of the town.

“WE THOUGHT OF STARTING SMALL, BUT THEN WE DECIDED TO GO BIG!” SHE TOLD DAILY SUN.

“We were looking at doing small bars in and around Joburg, then had a crazy idea to open up a club,” said Minnie Dlamini.

“I’m always looking for new ways and ideas to plunge into the entertainment space. And this was the perfect opportunity,” she added.

Homeground, her sports and entertainment show with Lungile Radu, comes to an end on Monday, 12 September, but the 32-year-old actress, TV presenter and producer launched her nightclub and restaurant, called The Mansion, on Wednesday.

The event was graced by celebrities including SK Khoza, Sphe and Naves, Andile Ncube, Unathi Nkayi, Hope Mbhele and Musa Keys.

The Mansion is in Centurion, Tshwane, and Minnie is the founder and co-owner.

She told Daily Sun that she was always looking for different business ventures.

“In the entertainment industry, it takes multiple streams of income to be successful. You have to branch out and spread your wings.”

She said the project had been in the works for the past year, and the club would be an opportunity to book artists from within SA and abroad.

“It’s all about music for me. I started out in live entertainment, playing music with the big and up-and-coming musicians,” said Minnie.

“I felt this was an opportunity for us to cater to different audiences and give them the music they love. It would give us a lot of freedom to do what we want.”

She said Centurion was a largely untapped market.

“There’s not a lot of high-end luxury clubs in this area, and we thought it would be a cool opportunity for us to capitalise on that. It’s about the vibe. I’m excited for people to have another place to party and develop talent, book new artists and give them an opportunity to perform.”

Minnie announced the ending of Homeground on social media, and Mzansi Magic confirmed that it is ending.

“After four successful seasons, Homeground will come to an end. M-Net would like to thank every guest that has been part of the show, including the presenters and production crew behind the scenes,” Mzansi Magic said.

Minnie is also going through a divorce from her husband, Quinton Jones. They announced it in February, stating that they would remain business partners and co-parents to their son, Netha.

Minnie and Quinton had two big weddings, that were broadcast on Mzansi Magic, Vuzu Amp and Showmax in 2017, titled Becoming Mrs Jones.
