UKHOZI FM presenter Irvin Sihlophe was remembered as a selfless person who spent most of his time helping others.

A memorial service was held at the SABC studios in Durban on Wednesday, 15 November where Ukhozi FM presenters, management, the station's former manager Bonga Mpanza and staff remembered him.

Irvin was described as a person who always went out of his way to help others.

Gospel musicians such as Dumi Mkokstad, Pastor Andile kaMajola and many others also attended the memorial service, which was broadcast live by Ukhozi FM.

Irvin, who joined Ukhozi FM in 2024, died on Thursday, 9 November at Addington Hospital after suffering a stroke.

Ukhozi FM presenter Khathide Ngobe said Irvin was the one who taught him how to do promos when the station had no producers.

"He was smart and knew how to use technology. He was the one who taught us the technology in the studio. Irvin loved God until the day he died. He always had advice and solutions for us. He was a good man and feared God," he said.

Ukhozi FM senior producer Mandla Mdletshe said Irvin was a trusted presenter at the station.

"When the late King Zwelithini died, we asked him to do all the recordings for us on the station and we also asked him when Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi died. We trusted him, and we asked him to visit our legendary Ukhozi FM presenters in their homes and document them," he said.

Pastor Lungisani Simelane, Ukhozi FM presenter and producer, said it was difficult for them as Ukhozi family to organise Irvin’s memorial service as he was the one who organised events of this nature when he was still alive.

"We didn’t know what to do and remembered that when he was alive, he was the one who would just organise it," he said.
