AWARD-WINNING maskandi singer Khuzani "Gatsheni" Ndlovu is a new taxi boss.
The 34-year-old from Pongola, KZN, won a Toyota Quantum as part of the first annual Mother of All Maskandi Festival held at People's Park, located within Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, on Saturday, 6 April. He was voted for by fans out of 30 maskandi musicians.
Gatsheni recently won the Best Newcomer Award at the Cultural and Creative Industry Awards, defeating Grammy award-winner Tyla.

He told Daily Sun he still has to decide whether his new taxi will be registered or not.
“Because I’m a new taxi owner, I’m going to decide if it'll be a taxi that works at the taxi rank, or it will be a taxi that will transport me and my dancers to festivals. I don’t have answers at the moment.
“I'd like to thank maskandi fans who believed in and voted for me to win the Quantum. It's more than a Quantum to me. What maskandi fans did for me is big and I promise not to disappoint them,” Gatsheni said.
The musician has been in the industry for more than a decade. His song titled Hit After Hit, known as Ibhodlela, has received a lot of airplay and made him famous.
He said the song was a prophecy because on the track, he asked maskandi fans to put him on the maskandi throne and promised to buy them a bottle of alcohol.
“I think my ancestors were telling me it was going to be my year and I'll get recognition that's long overdue when I released hit after hit but was ignored.
“I'd like to thank maskandi fans and event organisers for helping me get the recognition I deserved. I’m honoured to write history to become the first maskandi artist to win a Quantum during the first Mother of All Maskandi Festival,” he said.
