ONE of maskandi stars, except Khuzani Mpungose and Mthandeni Manqele, is about to be a taxi boss.

Maskandi fans have been asked to vote for their favourite maskandi musician to win a Toyota Quantum out of 30 musicians in the Mother of All maskandi festival.

The festival will be held at People’s Park outside Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, KZN on Saturday, 6 April.

The top 30 maskandi musicians, voted by fans, will share the stage while Khuzani and Mthandeni, who were banned from entering the competition because they have achieved more, will be guest musicians.

One of the event organisers Eric Ngobe told Daily Sun that the brand-new Quantum will be in the stadium waiting for a new owner during the festival.

"Now it's all systems go for the event and maskandi fans showed a big interest in voting for their musician and ended up in a voting war between KZN and the Eastern Cape. Voting lines for the one who will win a Toyota Quantum were closed on Wednesday, 3 April midnight and the winner will be announced during the festival on Saturday," he said.

He emphases that their decision to leave Khuzani and Mthandeni out the competition is because the two have achieved more in the music industry.

He said they wanted to give others a chance to shine and win the biggest prize.

Eric said that VIP packages and VVIP packages have been sold out.

Since the festival organisers asked fans to vote for their favourite maskandi stars a few weeks ago, they've been releasing the number of votes on a weekly basis.

Gatsheni, who recently scooped Best Newcomer in Cultural and Creative Industry Awards, was so far leading the pack, but it is not clear what happened in the last week before the voting lines closed.
