FUNERAL arrangements for Latozi “Madosini” Mpahleni are underway.
Her granddaughter and family spokeswoman Phumza Mpahleni told Daily Sun that Madosini will be laid to rest in her village of Libode, near Mthatha, in the Eastern Cape, on Saturday, 7 January.
“The Eastern Cape provincial government has offered to take care of the funeral arrangements.
“We have already received groceries and we are thankful for that,” she said.
“All we have to do is buy a cow and a goat as per our Xhosa tradition.
“We have also seen government officials from different departments visiting our home.
“Two of her colleagues, Msaki and Thandiswa Mazwai, also came and spent some time with us. Msaki spent two days going to the river and collecting wood from the bush.”

Madosini, as she was affectionately known, died at St Mary’s Hospital in Mthatha on 23 December after a long illness.
“Having survived a heart attack while she was on tour in France in 2019, as well as two Covid-19 attacks, her health status did not return to normal and she was admitted to hospital,” said Phumza in a statement.
Since the sad news broke, industry colleagues have been sending messages of condolences.
Atiya Khan said: “I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Madosini, who was also known as a poet, artist, philosopher, storyteller and musician.
“She was a keeper of stories and sounds from the Xhosa tradition, and a master of uhadi and umrhube (musical instruments). She had a presence like no other.”
