THE first season of Love & Hip Hop South Africa has just won its first international award.
The show was awarded the Best International Show at the 12th annual National Reality TV Awards in London, UK.
It was nominated along some of the biggest shows in the world such as Dr Pimple Popper, Judge Steve Harvey, Bling Empire: New York, 90 Day Fiancé UK, Married At First Sight Australia, The Kardashians and Love is Blind.
Season one of Love & Hip Hop South Africa premiered in February 2023 and starred Da L.E.S, Gigi Lamayne and Yanga Chief, alongside Shane Eagle, DJ Speedsta, Fifi Cooper, Money Badoo and J Molley.
Speaking about the win, the cast said they were over the moon.
Fifi Cooper thanked people for voting for them.

“I've always been a fan of Love & Hip Hop and the fact that it came from the US to SA is a big deal for me. I would like to thank Paramount for letting me be part of it. Thank you to everyone who voted. Let's keep supporting local content and a big shout out to all the cast as they did amazing,” she said.
J Molley, who opened up about depression and drug abuse on the show, said: “We're celebrating 50 years of hip-hop this year. So for us to win the Best International Show at the National Reality TV Awards 2023 is the best gift ever. Big shout out to the team and the cast for the amazing job.”
Gigi Lamayne said this shows that hip-hop is still big and relevant in Mzansi.
“Being on Love & Hip Hop South Africa was a manifestation for me as I used to watch Love & Hip Hop ATL, Miami, New York and even Hollywood. So, winning the Best International Show in 2023 is huge for me. It shows that hip-hop in South Africa is still in a competitive space,” she said.
Love & Hip Hop is an American franchise that was brought to Mzansi in celebration of hip-hop turning 50 years old.
