South Brothers founding member, Dr Moses Ngwenya wants an apology.

SOUL Brothers is not happy after a music promoter allegedly failed them.

The legendary mbaqanga group has apologised to its many fans in Zimbabwe, who were expecting to see their performance in the country during this festive season.

According to the founding member, Dr Moses Ngwenya, Soul Brothers will not be performing in Zimbabwe from Friday, 22 December to Saturday, 23 December 2023 at the Ziyakhala Music Festival.

He said the man postponed the show in October to 25 November and then to 22 December 2023.

"This man, deceptive promoters known as Mthente Projects is playing games. He paid us R20 000 in November 2023. This money is not even a deposit of Soul Brothers' shows," he said.

Ngwenya further said that the man must apologise to them and to the group's loving fans in Zimbabwe.

"This is our first time to work with him. He is a Zimbabwean-born living in South Africa. And he is a Soul Brothers' fan. This is very bad because we've never disappointed our fans for over 40 years," he said.

Ngwenya said they are apologising to the fans and didn't expect this to happen.

He said they would continue performing in Zimbabwe as long there's a good promoter working with them.

He said they were going to perform their new album called Hamba Naye with 12 tracks. It was released in the beginning of December 2023, and includes many of the group's top songs.

"We feel bad and even cancelled our show in KZN, which was supposed to happen from 22 - 25 December 2023," he said.

Ngwenya said he hoped next year they'll get a reliable promoter and perform in Zimbabwe.

Mandla Dube, one of the event organisers, said based on the statement that is issued by Dr Moses Ngwenya from Soul Brothers, they were not scammers.

"We had made some payment to the Soul Brothers band and unfortunately we didn't satisfy them. We were still prepared to sort out their outstanding balance before they leave South Africa.

"We are so surprised and disappointed. l'm also one of the biggest fans of Soul Brothers.

"And this event wasn't about Soul Brothers only, it was also supporting our Zimbabwean local artists. So the show is still continuing with local artists that are on the poster as well as Shongwe and Khuphuka Saved Group. We decided to spend the money on our local artists," he said.

He apologised to Soul Brothers' fans, who were looking forward to seeing the group.

He urged fans to continue supporting other artists on the line-up.

"We have never scammed anyone as we are still busy finalising about our event in Bulawayo and Gwanda.

The event is still on," said Dube.
