THE past few months have been tough for musician Langa Mavuso.

This comes after the loss of his long-term partner, Chef Lentswe Bhengu.

The popular chef died in March at the age of 37, leaving Langa heartbroken and having to deal with the pain of his death.

Langa (29) spoke to Daily Sun about Lentswe’s death and how he plans on closing that chapter of his life.

The musician released a new song titled You Live On on Friday, 24 November, which is an ode to their love.

“To be honest, everyone knows that I had quite a tough time at the beginning of the year after losing my partner. So, this song is about the love that we shared, the moments we shared and just everything I wanted to share about our relationship.

“I wanted to capture the times we shared and the love that we had. The song is about remembering him and loving him once more. The song is also about closing that chapter and coming into a place of acceptance. Getting some closure,” he said.

Langa said his family and friends were his support structure during the tough time and helped him through healing.

“Family and friends were my support system. I was really carried through by my family. I was in church a lot and praying with my mum, and that’s what allowed me to accept and come into a place of peace. The Bible says don’t cry like a hopeless person. Being hopeful and trusting God will always trump any kind of fear and unsureness that lives in me. My faith helped me a lot,” she said.

He worked with Sama-award musician Manana on the song.

“Manana and I went to varsity together, the University of Cape Town. We were studying jazz, and we forged a friendship there. We were in a band with Zoe Modiga. So, with this song I had the words, but I didn’t have the melody. I asked for his help. I gave him all the words. We sat in studio, and we created this song,” Langa said.

The singer will be releasing another album next year.

“There will be special collaborations and it’ll have different genres from amapiano to gospel. I’ve opened myself up to sharing the stage with people that I love and respect regardless of their style of music.

“There’s also a lot coming from me next year, there’s a TV show I can’t speak about. I’ll have a big show with an orchestra in Pretoria,” he said.
