AWARD-winning singer and songwriter Nkosinathi Langa Mavuso is shattered by the death of his partner, chef Lentswe Bhengu.
On Monday, 6 March, he detailed how they met and the pain he was going through.
The Intliziyo hitmaker spoke at Lentswe’s memorial service which was held at the Every Nation Rosebank Church in Joburg.
He told mourners that they met eight years ago and a few months later, they started dating.
Langa said: “How do I begin to say goodbye when there’s still so much love left to give. Almost eight years ago, on a surprise trip to Johannesburg, we’d come to watch a one-woman show, and his smile captured me. Little did I know that it’d be mine for years to come.

“Family and adventure were always at the centre of his life. He was already planning our next trip to some place that I probably didn’t want to go to. The seven years that I spent with Lentswe were pure love. We fought a lot, we had long embraces, and we made life for us. Regardless of the strain, we knew we loved each other. Every text ended with the words love first, love always. But today, I must find new ways to embody that love and find a new place to share my heart.”
Langa described Lentswe as an embodiment of joy.
“He is the smile that captured us all, and his laughter filled every room,” said Langa.
Lentswe died on Wednesday, 1 March, after a short illness. On Monday, 6 March, his family, friends and colleagues celebrated his life.
His funeral will be held in Durban at the Manzimtoti Civic Centre on Wednesday, 8 March.
