After taking a break from the music industry, Afro-soul singer Lady X has made a comeback with her newly released EP titled Rebirth.

Lady X, whose real name is Xolisa Mvula, is famous for her 2017 hit, Igugu Lami.

The 32-year-old from Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape has previously worked with the likes of Mo Flava, Maphorisa, Black Motion and African Roots.

Talking to SunBuzz about what inspired her to get back in the studio, Lady X said: “I inspired myself. I started getting a new outlook on life and being unapologetic about who I am.”

The six-track EP is a dance-themed project with elements of amapiano, Afro-tech and electronic music. On what inspired the sound of the EP, she said: “Listening to different sounds during the Covid- 19 lockdown, I realised that I can relate to these sounds.”

Talking about the recording of the EP, she said: “When a producer played something, it was easy for me to get in the zone and do my thing. Lady X has never been afraid to explore different sounds.”

She has worked with Tyler ICU, Claudio, Kooldrink, Cornelius SA, Thaiwanda, Mr Kamera, and Simba Tagz on her new EP.

She said the EP is meant to inspire people that sometimes it’s okay to go through challenges in life.

“Every song on the EP is a part of my life.

“I was uplifting myself from everything I was going through,” said Lady X.

“I was telling my story about almost taking my life and being in a dark place.

“I want people to acknowledge their scars and not to look at them as failures.

“There are so many things that have happened to me.

“It’s now time to explore greener pastures. This is me expressing myself.”
