AWARD-WINNING rapper Kwesta has sold thousands of copies of his music and released some of the country’s biggest songs.

He’s now celebrating 16 years in the industry and told Daily Sun he can’t believe he’s reached such a big milestone.

“It feels amazing. It's one thing to have done this thing for 16 years, but it's another to have done something that I genuinely love with all my heart, and to be able to do it for this long. When you start, you never know how long you’ll do this for.

“You think it’s a hobby, then you wake up one morning and it's 16 years later. Also, it's not like I was just here doing nothing, it's years of contributing to the culture that I love, this music industry that I love so much. So, it feels really dope to know that I've gone on for this long. I know a lot of people who would have loved to go on for this long but couldn’t. So, I feel really blessed to have an opportunity of a 16-year career,” he said.

The Ngud’ hitmaker said he’s learnt a lot of lessons in the past, but the most important is to love the music.

“I think the most important lesson is to just make sure you love it. That'll make you realise that whatever position you're in, the top is not a place that you stay in forever.

"This thing is like a wheel that turns and turns, and sometimes you might find yourself in a position that's not as desirable, but if you remember that you love it, you just look down and you keep working. Hopefully, you'll be in a different position. Any ups or downs are temporary, the one thing that's forever is your love for it,” said the rapper.

To celebrate the milestone, Kwesta will tour South Africa from 29 April to 12 August.

“People can expect fireworks. I’ve had a career that’s been blessed with some of the best talents South Africa has to offer and we’ll have some of those guys come through to some of these shows,” said Kwesta.
