Actress Khanyi Mbau, who plays the lead role of Zandile on Showmax’s popular series The Wife, has apologised to the viewers.
This comes after the show, which is adapted from the popular book series by Dudu Busani-Dube, did not meet the viewers’ expectations.
“We have let you down. We have not given you what you had anticipated – a love story between Zandile and Nkosana. That’s what we all hoped to experience,” she said.
This comes after viewers shared they felt like the show did not capture the essence of the story as portrayed in the book series.
Khanyi took it upon herself to address the matter.
According to Khanyi, the first season of the show had all the romance a wife should experience with her better half.
“We watched them develop into a married couple and it gave us all the feels.
“But Season Two didn’t give us enough love and companionship from Zandile and Nkosana. That’s why you are all so disappointed. I am too,” she said.

The show, which is supposed to tell the love stories of the Zulu brothers, according to Khanyi, has become more of a crime drama series filled with prison scenes.
“People going missing, hate and mystery instead of a warm sexy story about a man a woman who should be in love,” she said.
Like the rest of the viewers, the actress, whose breakout role was on Muvhango, shares that the reason why viewers were so disappointed in the show was because the version of the story in the book series shared so much intimacy, seduction and love.
It is a story about patience and triumph, which is the total opposite of what is portrayed in the Showmax version.
“So, I feel you all! Imagine how I feel playing Zandile after all my research on her. You are not alone. I, too, want to experience this deep love story,” she continued.
“To be honest, I had hoped for an African version of 50 Shades of Grey. That’s how I imagined them. So your cries are heard, and I understand.”
Although people complained a lot on social media, they continued to watch the show.
Khanyi thanked them for their continuous support despite their dissapointment.
“Nonetheless, thank you for sticking it out and staying loyal to the show and the platform. Your views mean so much to me as an actress and performer, but you are not going crazy, I feel you,” she said.
