SINGER Kelly Khumalo believes that back in the day, men were intentional about asking women out.

So her new song Emaweni, which she told Daily Sun is a love song, will remind people of the importance of ukushela.

“Back in the days, our grandmothers’ experiences was that when young men wanted to shela them, they would meet emaweni (cliff),” she said.

She said the TV series, Shaka iLembe showed exactly how a woman should be courted by a man.

“If you watch Shaka iLembe you will see how a lady is asked out just like how the characters Senzangakhona and Nandi met. It’s emaweni. The landscape was everything to the old generation. It meant a lot for them to meet there as the scenario would set the mood,” she said.
