KAIZER CHIEFS defender Luke Fleurs' alleged killers appeared in the Roodepoort Magistrates Court on Thursday, 25 April.

The six accused, Ndumiso Moswane (26), Fernando Sive (25), Nhlakanipho Dlamini (21), Franky Xaba (25), Maredi Mphahlele (36), and Thembinkosi Hlanikhawu (31), remained in custody as the court wanted to examine certain aspects of their statements.

This was after their Legal Aid lawyers, Ingrid Mailule and Moshibudi Molefi, read out their affidavits before the court.

The case was postponed to Thursday, 2 May.

On Friday, 19 April, they were remanded in custody after their Legal Aid representatives were absent during their second appearance.

On Friday, 12 April, the accused remained in custody while waiting for their legal applications.

They are all charged with murder with common purpose, robbery with aggravating circumstances, and defeating the ends of justice.

During the court proceedings, state prosecutor Paseka Temeki read their matter to Magistrate Delise Smith and then told her that they will be represented by the Legal Aid team and their defence lawyers are present in court.

Magistrate Delise Smith said they had to postpone this matter because the court wanted to examine certain aspects of their given statements.

She said this would take a week, and they would have to go back into custody.

"We have certain aspects to look at in your statements. We will have to postpone this matter until next week," she said.

The prosecutor said he is not against the postponement of this matter.

"Your worship, yes, we can postpone this matter. I have no obligations against it," Temeki said.

In their statements the accused have agreed that they will obey their bail conditions if given. They said they will not disturb the public order or intimidate any of their witnesses.

Luke was killed during an alleged hijacking at a petrol station in Florida, Joburg, on Wednesday, 3 April.

Gauteng police arrested the six suspects on Wednesday, 10 April.
