THIS year has come with great blessings for the International Pentecostal Church Choir (IPCC) as they got their first nomination in more than 10 years.
They have been nominated for Best Traditional Faith Album at the South African Music Awards (Samas). They said they are happy to be recognised again.
The choir, which is 34 years old, is nominated for their album, Hoja Ke Sena Wena alongside Dumi Mkokstad, Bucie Radebe, Brown Mosiapoa and Tsholofelo Ntuli.
Their manager and publicist, Lekgetho Shai, spoke to Daily Sun about the nomination.
“This came as a shock because it’s been a long time since we’ve been nominated. It’s been a humbling moment. We’re happy.
“We’ve been releasing music in the past years but never got nominated. I believe we got a nomination this time because we came back with a bang and gave people what they wanted.”

Lekgetho said they planned this album well, which is why they got nominated.
“The album was released in March 2022, and it consists of hymns, which is what we're known for. This time we sing about hope and restoration. The title of the album basically says if I wasn’t with the Lord, where would I be, and the songs follow that theme.
“Before we work on an album, we sit down and talk, just to discuss what we want to do. Before releasing this album, we hadn’t released any music in a year and a half. So, we had some time to work on it for a while before recording and releasing it. We decided that we need to stick to the original sound of our choir, the sound that our fans fell in love with,” he said.
He said they hope to win the award.
“We're up against big musicians. It’s a very tricky category. But we hope that we take the award. It would mean a lot to us, seeing that it’s been long,” Lekgetho said.
