ENGLISH actor, producer and musician Idris Elba stars in Beast, a pulse-pounding new thriller that will hit local cinemas on Friday, 12 August.

It was shot in South Africa in locations including Cape Town and Limpopo, with the final showdown filmed in the Northern Cape on the Namibia border.

The production team wanted to protect the natural environment and habitat in which they were filming. And in one scene in a watering hole by Nate Daniels, played by Idris, the production built an actual hole to avoid disturbing the existing one used by animals.

Idris stars alongside local actor Sharlto Copley as well as Iyana Halley and Leah Sava Jeffries.

The film follows a father and his two teenage daughters who find themselves hunted by a massive rogue lion intent on proving that the savannah has but one apex predator. It was written by Ryan Engle (Rampage, Non-Stop) from an original story by Jaime Primak Sullivan, and executive-produced by Jaime and Bernard Bellew.
