The Idols top five contestants were announced on Saturday, 7 October.

IDOLS SA contestants took the audience to church on Saturday, 7 October at Mosiaék in Fairland, Johannesburg.

This week’s theme was gospel songs, which had the audience praising and worshiping as the top five contestants were announced. The contestants had a chance to do duets with some of the best gospel artists in Mzansi.

Envic was eliminated from the show and said goodbye to other contestants.

Opening the show was Thabo, who was joined on stage by Dr Tumi and they did a rendition of Wafika. Following him was Princess, who did a duet of Ungukuphila with Xolly Mncwango.

Niikey was joined by Betusile and they did a rendition of Ngena Noah. The next person to be announced in the top five was Faith.

He performed Healing Power with Xolly Mncwango. Nkosi joined Betusile and they did a rendition of Nomathemba.

In the second round of performances, the top five performed Africa's finest music.

Thabo did a rendition of Peru by Burna Boy. Somizi said his timing is perfect.

“There was no need to prove anything this week. You are smart,” he said.

Thembi said the second song was not amazing.

“This is the most important part of the competition. Don’t relax, this is the time for you to be stronger and I don’t think the song was a good choice,” she said.

JR disagreed with her. “I think your song choices were brilliant,” he said.

Princess sang For my Hand by Burna Boy and Thembi said the first song was impressive.

“I enjoy the fact that you stood your ground and you were powerful. The second one I am not sure, it is because the first one was powerful or not,” she said.

JR said she was serving vocals on the first song. “This second song was cool. I feel like you needed to deliver on the first song and the second one it’s a bonus,” he said.

Somizi said she had a great song choice with the second song, but she must’ve dressed like a pop star.

Niikiey did a rendition of Maradona by Niniola. JR said she was on fire.

“We are a gospel nation, we love our gospel music and everyone was wonderful. On the first song you were great. The second song you were even better than the first one,” he said.

Somizi said the first song was amazing. “You are forward ne? And the life of the party. I can see that you have a sense of humour and like prankish people ne?,” he said.

Thembi said the first song was amazing. “You are that artist that is unpredictable we never know what you have next. And that’s what makes you a great artist,” she said.

Faith followed with In my Maserati by Olakira. Somizi said the first song he was swallowed by Xoli.

“I really enjoyed the second song. I had faith in you,” he said.

Thembi said the first song was too loud. “I don’t know maybe it was the nerves of performing with one of the greatest artists,” she said.

JR said the second song was a bit off key.

Nkosi performed People by Libianca Fonji. Thembi said something was different about him.

“The first performance was good, you were there and you enjoyed yourself. The second one, for the first time I was like, who is this person. It was beautiful,” she said.

JR said the first song was pitchy for him. “The second song, I think you needed to almost go home. Well done congratulations, great performance,” he said.

Somizi said the second song was amazing. “I think I need to go to an initiation of sangoma because I said you will be in the top five and here you are,” he said.
