GOSPEL musician Mqapheli Ndlovu uses music to heal after his parents were brutally killed.

Mqapheli won the Gospel Icon Discovery competition and a recording deal with gospel star Thinah Zungu in 2022.

He's now preparing to release his debut professional album, Kuyogcin’uThixo, aiming to motivate people that God will help them no matter what.

Mqapheli from KwaXimba, west of Durban, told Daily Sun he's focus in music is more on healing broken hearts and souls than entertaining.

“Music helped me to heal after I faced difficulties when I was young. My parents were killed and I ended up being raised by relatives.

“I know if the music was able to heal me, and it could heal other people who have broken hearts as my album aims to revive and bring back hope,” he said.

He said he released his debut album when he was a grade 7 pupil at Nomfihlela Primary School in 2008.

“In 2021, I released my second album, but all these albums were sold in the streets. Kuyogcin’uThixo will be my  first album recorded professionally and sold in a proper way.

“On 2 June, we will release four songs and the full album on 15 June. Although the album is a revival, I also included a dance song titled Phuma esixukwini encouraging people to focus on their lives,” he said.

Mqapheli said he once faced challenges in life and even went to Ukhozi FM to the Listen to MY Story show, telling listeners about his difficult times in 2015.

“I met the late gospel star Sfiso Ncwane who prophesied to me that one day I'd be a winner like him," said Mqapheli.

“I won the Gospel Icon Discovery and a recording deal with Thinah Zingu last year. I know it's Ncwane’s prophecy, and I’m still going to win more like the late gospel star."

He said he also leant a lot from working with Thinah on his album Kuyogcin’uThixo and still wants to learn more.
