AWARD-WINNING film producer Thabang Moleya says his journey to success wasn't an easy one but because of his love and passion, today he's celebrating 20 years in the industry.

He said he had to work his way to the top to be where he is now.

Thabang told Daily Sun that he went from working behind the camera to owning one of the biggest film and television companies, Seriti Films. Now the executive producer of Mzansi Magic's telenovela Gomora has made a name for himself.

He has directed award-winning shows such as Happiness Is A Four-Letter Word, Happiness Ever After, and The Herd.

"I have learnt so much from the industry. I learnt that you must make sure that the stories are from the heart," he said.

"This will help you create stories for which people will remember you, and it will help you remain true to yourself as a storyteller."

The Joburg-based producer said there is nothing that can beat being authentic, adding that this will open doors for you as people want real stories.

He said one thing that kept him going was consistency. And he believes in treating people with respect. Thabang said when one treats his people with love, they work happily and deliver without fear.

"I am one person who believes in giving others a chance to showcase their skills, as well as treating them equally," he said.

Thabang said he believes the industry is all about opening doors for one another.

"We have done a lot as Seriti Films over the past years, and we are grateful that Mzansi Magic gave us a chance as well," he said.

Thabang said there is more to be seen on Gomora this season.

"If you remember, the show started during Covid-19. We worked so hard to be here," he said.

He told Daily Sun that he's happy with the success that it came with. "It shows how resilient we were as a team. We never gave up, and we made sure that we strived for greatness." 

Thabang said his message to young people is that they shouldn't give up easily, adding that they should be persistent and know that one day they will be where they want to be.
