WHEN Thobeka Phanyeko was hit by Covid-19 twice, she had to decide what she wanted in life.
So, she spoke to God, and made a promise to Him.
Glamour magazine's seasoned journalist said she made a promise to God to tap into her full potential. Since then, she's been wearing many hats.
If she isn't writing cover stories, she's in the studio recording music, deejaying at events, giving life lessons as a life coach, and acting.
The Cape Town-based, Orlando West-born all-rounder has been a journalist for over 13 years.
"I also have a background in drama, so storytelling runs through the core of my DNA," Thobeka said.
She said she found out that she could sing in high school and started auditioning for musicals.

"I went to an art school, so I was always surrounded by creatives. That enabled me to stretch myself and explore the depths of my creativity," she said.
Thobeka started taking music seriously during the pandemic.
"We worked from home at the time, and after I survived Covid-19 twice, I made a promise to God and myself to tap into my full potential. Considering that I believe in pouring myself into everything I do, it's been a challenge deciding what to focus on."
Surviving Covid-19 gave me perspective, she said.
"I'm learning to lean into my truth. If I have a song in my heart, I go to the studio. And if I experience bursts of creativity, I start writing. When I need to escape, I head to my mixer. And when I need to connect, I wear my coaching hat. At the core of it, is contributing to social impact and using my love for words to build and inspire," she said.
Thobeka also hosts a project called The Glamour Book Club, which she said is close to her heart.
"My late grandmother, Florence Thabethe always cultivated a culture of reading in our home. Therefore, I turned to books to make sense of the world, and they carried me through different life stages."
