FORMER Durban Gen actor Mthandeni Mbambo is encouraging men to understand their wives.
The 39-year-old award-winning actor and director from Empangeni, KZN, said when wives reprimand their husbands for wrongdoing, they feel their wives are too strict.
Mthandeni is rehearsing for a stage play titled My Wife, The Loving Bully that premieres at the Empangeni Civic Centre on Saturday, 13 April.
The play is written by legendary journalist, Wellington Makwakwa and directed by Mthandeni.
Mthandeni told Daily Sun the music-and-dance play is about the funny things that happen in marriage.
"In a marriage, it's funny that husbands sometimes get childish while wives get matured and reprimand theme when they're bathing or for not using glass when they drink juice. What I like about the wives is that they do that in a good manner, while shouting," Mthandeni said.
"Wives who reprimand their husbands aren't bullies and don't do it in a bad way. They want everything in the house to be in order. Husbands know wives borrow money from elsewhere and aren't happy about it. But when the husbands are in trouble and need quick cash, the wives rescue them with the same money."

According to Mthandeni, the play will also help to fight gender-based violence and make husbands, wives and the children understand why wives seem like bullies when they reprimand their husbands.
"At home, wives are like managers. They make sure everything is in order, and lead by example.
"They also wake up in the morning and bathe first before they do anything, but husbands hardly take a bath and wives have to ask them to," he said.
He said on stage, there'll be two men - a married man and an unmarried one - talking about the funny side of marriage.
"We're planning to take the play to schools," he said.
Mthandeni scooped the Best Supporting Actor at the Simon Mabhunu Sabela KZN Film & Television Awards in 2023 for his role as detective Sibiya on e.tv's Durban Gen in 2022.
