Part of the statement reads: “The Recording Industry of South Africa, as the custodian and organiser of the South African Music Awards, has announced that the 29th edition of the premier music event will open for entries in the first quarter of 2023. The ripple effect of the date for entries is that the awards show will be staged only in the second half of the year. The SAMAs has been on an upward trajectory in the past three years, with last year’s instalment attracting over 1 300 submissions across all categories, setting a new record in the process. This has stood as testament to the confidence the music industry has in the systems and processes of the SAMAs.”
Risa said additionally, after months of industry wide consultations and reflections, the awards are undergoing some fundamental transformations that will be made public in due course.
Its CEO Nhlanhla Sibisi said he is pleased to inform the industry, fans and supporters of the local music industry that the SAMAs continue to prove to be an enduring feature in the South African music landscape.

According to Sibisi, this year will not be different.
“We are confident that as we push towards the milestone 30th year of the awards, we will have an event that is agile, engaging and puts the artist first,” said Sibisi.
