KWAITO singer Mfundas Musiq will honour the late kwaito and gqom star, Mandla "Mampintsha" Maphumulo.

Mfundas Musiq, whose real name is Funda Mpungose (28) from Nkandla, KZN will release a single titled Mampintsha.

He said the song is to remember Mampintsha who died in December 2022.

Mfunda loved Mampintsha's work and had wished to work with him in the future.

“I grew up looking up to Mampintsha because I had the wish to be like him. I was shocked when he died in December.”

“So, at the beginning of this year, I thought of composing a song to honour him,” he said.

Funda said he will officially launch his song at the end of April.

He began his music career in 2010 in Nkandla and in 2016 moved to Durban where he met popular Afrotainment top dancer Sgaqa.

“I told him that I’m a musician and needed to record, push and distribute my music. But unfortunately, we were interrupted because we did not have enough music knowledge,” he said.

Funda said former Nkandla mayor Thami Ntuli helped him to meet kwaito stars Sosha and Bullistic.

“I worked with them for two years and in 2019 I went to Johannesburg for greener pastures. I met Big Zulu who taught me about how to register the music as well as a music company.

“After that, I established my record label called Fundas Musiq Records and I have released my new single song under it,” he said.
