LEGENDARY kwaito musician and composer Eugene Mthethwa isn’t happy with Mzansi’s weak cybersecurity.

This is because the musician has been receiving messages from hackers who managed to hack his Instagram account on Sunday, 19 February.

“I am reminded that we do not have proper laws that protect us from cyberbullying.

“This must stop as many people are getting harassed by these people,” he said.

Eugene, who is also known as Donald Duck, shared the news of the hack with his Instagram followers on Sunday. He wrote: “Alert to all watching this video! All my social media accounts have been hacked and sensitive information has been retrieved and circulated. If you open the link or respond to the number, you will be hacked.”

He said even his family received messages from the hackers.

“My family members received messages on their WhatsApp numbers when the hackers hacked my Instagram, which is evidence that regardless of POPIA (Protection of Personal Information Act) their mobile numbers are easily accessible,” he said.

Eugene said they are trying their best to deal with him, and people must not open any attachments or messages from numbers they don’t know.

“Hackers tried contacting me using the Instagram calling facility, but I rejected the call. And only then they started sending text messages threatening me,” he said.

He said the hackers tried to access all his information, but he made sure to protect it.

“I am helpless as these facilities not owned by us, not governed by our laws.”

Eugene said he tried to reach out to Instagram but has not received any response to his complaint.
