DR CHARLEY Pietersen cares about children who are growing up without fathers.
In 2016, he started an organisation called Growing Up Without a Father Foundation.
He released a documentary about fatherlessness in April.
Pietersen screened the preview in Centurion recently, which will be followed by previews in Bloemfontein, Cape Town and other provinces.
He’s pushing the issue of fatherlessness so government could take it seriously.
“Most problems like GBV and violence against women and children are mostly caused by fatherlessness.”
He said this needed to be addressed from a national level.
Pietersen said he included people like actor Jerry Mofokeng and former Bafana Bafana striker Bernard Parker in his documentary as they also grew up without fathers.

He involved many others who grew up without fathers as well as single mums who are sharing their life experiences.
“My aim is to take it on national and international TV channels,” he said.
He wants to build an academy for fatherless children and orphans in Free State.
“My journey is very lonely as people want to run away from responsibility. Fathers in top positions don’t want to support children. We have to address this as we are raising angry young boys and women.”
Pietersen said fatherless kids should not allow the stigma to decide who they will become.
He said they must find their purpose and goals. He is also writing a book to encourage men to rise up and take their rightful positions.
Pietersen published Growing Up Without a Father in 2015 and Boy Child You Matter in 2019.
