SOUTH African Film and Television Awards-nominated actress Ayanda Bandla’s new character is bringing a soft new side viewers haven’t seen from her.
She is popularly known as the cold-hearted Lakhe on drama series uBettina Wethu.
However, she currently stars as Gugulethu Mboma on SABC1’s new suspense drama Identity.
The actress, who grew up in Protea North, Soweto, told SunBuzz about her new character.
“Lakhe is powerful, she’s a villain and lets no one in front of her. Gugu, on the other side, is soft, she’s a loving character and the salt of the earth. Viewers will get to see me play this character that takes me away from the hard shell of Lakhe and brings warm characteristics.”

She also shared about what the series is about.
“Identity is a suspense show. It is the first of its kind for SABC1. It’s about a husband, Melusi (Bongile Mantsai) and wife, played by me, who live a very normal and comfortable life. The husband is a good cop and pastor, he upholds and practises the law and he’s a man of faith.
“However, something happens when Melusi is on his way to a trip to Limpopo. He goes via Joburg to see family.
“Something happens there and he goes missing. Gugu goes to Joburg to look for her husband. She is accompanied by her husband’s friend and they find something. People need to watch the show to know what it is,” she said.
Catch Ayanda on Identity on SABC1 every Sunday at 7.30pm.
