The singer, whose real name is Rethabile Thejane (32), spoke to SunBuzz about the song.
Ma Gogo is the first single out of his upcoming album named after his mum.
“The song Ma Gogo is an amapiano banger about celebrating the elderly and connecting them with the kids. It’s a fun song that will bring people together to dance this festive season. It was released on 25 November. It’s the first single from my upcoming album titled Nnini, named after my mum’s name,” he said.
Abuti Retha also has a challenge on social media for the song.
“Social media is a big and important space for the music industry and that’s why I use it. I am currently pushing the #MaGogo dance challenge on social media. People must make a video dancing to the song and post it on social media.
“They must use the hashtag #MaGogoDance and the video with the most likes and comments will win R5 000. The competition ends on 28 December,” he said.

The musician shared how his love of music came about.
“I realised my love of music in the year 2000, when my family moved to Rustenburg. But I started pursuing music seriously back in 2011. After high school, I went to study at the Soul Candi Institution of Music.
“There, I studied production and music business. I’ve been pushing music since then and I am signed under Bodman Music.”
“I am working towards two projects that are coming out next year – an EP and an album. One is going to be a hip-hop project and the other one is going to be an amapiano project,” he said.
