RENOWNED DJ Sox has opened up about his journey of losing everything to drug addiction, the struggles he faced, and his return to sobriety.
Celebrating a milestone
The legendary DJ now celebrates 11 years being sober after his rehab stint in 2012 and he said he marked the occasion with an EP titled Full Circle.
DJ Sox, whose real name is Mbusi Sokhela, is the founding member of the legendary kwaito group Durban Finest alongside DJ Tira.
Sox and Tira formed Durban Finest in the early 2000s and became very popular and then disappeared for seven years after DJ Sox had drug problems but managed to bounce back in 2016 with the hit song Umsindo after he was rehabilitated.
The 46-year-old DJ said he had to start his life from scratch after he went down because of drugs.

The DJ, who is also a businessman, said he lost his businesses and his music career was affected.
From Mbusi to DJ Sox
He said the first step for him to bounce back was to firstly deal with himself as Mbusi Sokhela before DJ Sox.
“It all started after the funeral of my close friend who was using and selling drugs. Many people cornered me after the funeral and let me use drugs once that day and that's when I started using them. I didn’t know that I was getting myself in a mess of seven years,” he said.
Overcoming financial struggles
He said the decision to go to rehab was challenging, but he recognised the need for change as he disliked the path he was on and was losing friends.
“I started doing research about the rehab that will counsel me and detox me. I went there, I met a doctor and when it was time to pay, I didn’t have money.
“I took the doctor's banking details and when I was getting a gig, I was sending money straight to a rehab, and it was about R45 000,” he said.
