WE caught up with the South African DJ ahead of his set at Ultra in Cape Town on Friday night and boy was it a set.

DJ Shimza, whose real name is Ashley Raphala, played on the RESISTENCE stage alongside Brazilian DJ Vintage Culture, Cape Town-based producer, DWSON and tribal house DJ Melè to name a few.

The Tembisa-born DJ said that as a DJ, playing at Ultra South Africa only means that it's a step closer to playing at Ultra Miami, which is the ultimate goal.

He said that although it's a big festival to play at, the nerves don't get to him anymore.

"I just go through music and then I know where I'm going to go, judging by the mood and what the vibe is like before I play"
