POPULAR producer DJ Cleo is back on the radio and Mzansi is happy about it.

The Wena Ng'Hamba Nawe hitmaker, whose real name is Tlou Cleopas Monyepao, hosted his first show, The Eskhaleni Party, on Radio 2000 on Friday, 5 April.

He spoke to Daily Sun about joining the radio station and what people can expect from his show.

"It wasn’t really my decision. It was an honour that the station asked me to join. I said yes because I love radio and with my degree, I might be able to run the station," he said.

When his return to radio was announced, people celebrated on social media.

Cleo said he won't disappoint his listeners but will keep them entertained.

"It’s humbling and I promise not to let them down. This is the beginning of the biggest radio dance show in the country. It’s a late-night dance radio show, so it’s less talk and more music. It will be entertainment-orientated and will give young musicians like instrumentalists, DJs and artists a platform to showcase their skills," Cleo said.

Radio and TV personality DJ Sbu has also joined Radio 2000 as a breakfast show host, and Cleo is looking forward to working with him. They previously worked at the same station 24 years ago.

"Great moments we experienced together. I liked Sbu a lot and was inspired by him. Our relationship has been sketchy, only because I was holding on to the past. Seeing him in person two weeks ago reminded me of the love I’ve always felt for him," Cleo said.

"I’m glad we're together again. It's a fresh start for me as we're both older and wiser."

The DJ graduated from Wits University in 2023 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.

When asked what inspired him to go back to school, he said: "I don’t know why I did, really. I woke up and was in class. But I’m always about bettering myself, and this job in radio is one such example. I’m developing myself in a different area now," he said.
