SATURDAY, 10 February, marks a year since Mzansi top rapper Kiernan "AKA" Forbes was gunned down in Durban.

AKA and his friend, celebrity chef Tebello "Tibz" Motsoane, were shot dead at The Wish Restaurant premises on Florida Road in Durban on 10 February 2023. He was booked to perform in Durban at the time.

Their shocking murder footage was captured by CCTV cameras which circulated on social media, and the restaurant was closed for a few weeks after the incident.

Although there was a video of izinkabi seen ambushing and killing the duo before they ran away, the police are still to arrest the assailants.

KZN police spokesman Colonel, Robert Netshiunda, told Daily Sun the case is still under investigating.

“At the moment, we're not giving any updates regarding the AKA murder case because it is still under investigation.

“Please, give us time to investigate and when we have something we'll communicate,” he said.

In September 2023, KZN provincial commissioner, Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, said cops had made a breakthrough in the murder investigation.

He added that they had recovered the firearm that was used to kill the rapper and were confident that they had identified the getaway cars in the crime.

“We've identified at least a couple of vehicles that were used. Some were used as gateway vehicles. Others were used as spotters.

“There may be vehicles that were used by the people after the fact. We suspect they're our suspects in this regard. We've identified at least one firearm that was used and positively identified it as the one that was used to shoot and kill AKA,” he said.

Mkhwanazi said police have identified a few individuals for questioning. This after discussing the matter with the National Prosecuting Authority.
