Comedian and influencer King Nuba won his first award with his first nomination.

WHAT started off as a joke for King Nuba who would post jokes on his Facebook page a few years ago, has turned into a success story.

King Nuba, whose real name is Yamkela Nuba from Umzimkhulu in KZN, is reaping good fruit from what he has sowed.

The 24-year-old comedian and influencer scooped his first award with his first nomination.

He was nominated at the South African Traditional Music Awards (Satmas) under the Best Traditional influencer in the awarding ceremony held at the Durban Christian Centre Jesus Dome in Durban on Friday, 15 December.

King Nuba, who graduated with a degree in teaching at Walter Sisulu University in 2021, told Daily Sun he's humbled to have scooped the award with his first nomination.

“These are the one biggest awards in South Africa, which I respect. I feel honoured to be nominated and to have won it with my first nomination since I officially started to be a comedian and influencer in 2019.

“I’m using my Facebook page to make people laugh out of their lungs since 2019 and in 2021 I started to use TikTok, and people love both,” he said.

King Nuba, who also appeared on Imbewu: The Seed in a cameo role before it was canned by e.tv, said he hopes that his award will open many doors for him to continue to make people laugh.

“I’m an artist and I do what artists do, which is to entertain people. I can make people laugh with my comedy, singing, dancing, and acting.

“I feel like many doors will be opened and at the moment I won’t lie, I don’t have big plans. I’m the kind of person who doesn't plan because I don’t want to be disappointed when my plans are not going according to what I have planned,” he said.

He said that as he also completed his degree in teaching in 2021, the aim was to go to the classrooms and teach pupils.

“At the moment I’m moving with the flow. When I get a gig in this entertainment industry, I take it. If I also a job to be a teacher, I'll take it,” he said.
