CELEBRITIES recently came together to play netball for a good course.
In their quest to give back to disadvantaged schools, Telkom hosted a Celebrity Netball Face-off at the Heartfelt Arena in Tshwane on Wednesday, 15 June. Mzansi stars got together for a netball challenge and the winning team will donate a netball court to M.H. Baloyi Secondary School in Winterveld, Tshwane.
This initiative is aimed at investing in sports for the youth.
The teams were led by radio and TV personality Khutso Theledi and social media sensation Lasizwe Dambuza.
The duo were joined by their celebrity friends, netball’s most valuable players, the Proteas legends, soccer stars and Telkom brand influencers such as Jonathan Boyton-Lee, Twasa Seoke, Selby Mkhize, Zizo Tshwete, Marciel Hopkins, Carina Nel and Brian Rikhotso.

Speaking to Daily Sun, Khutso said being part of such initiatives was humbling.
She said getting a fully equipped netball court for a disadvantaged school is a big deal.
“I’m happy that we beat team Lasizwe. This was not just about winning but about giving back,” she said.
Lasizwe said he was honoured to be part of this initiative.
He said he had never played netball before and it was difficult, but the end goal meant everything to him.
“I’m happy that Telkom trusted me with this initiative,” said Lasizwe.
Telkom’s chief marketing officer, Gugu Mthembu, said sport does not only bring incredible joy to the society but it also serves as a platform for young people to showcase their skills and talent.
“At Telkom, we partnered with Netball South Africa to ensure equal representation of women in sports and to make sure that young women can live life without limits through our support.
“The Netball Celebrity Face-Off spoke to our desire to not only showcase the sport of netball but also the enjoyment that comes with participation in sports activities.
“Our intention was to draw attention to the sport and educate the youth on how they can turn their passions into careers,” she said.
She said Mzansi has a lot of talent and we need to produce more high-quality players who will represent the country.
“What better way to make sure that this is possible than by standing behind our amazing athletes,” she said.
From the Gauteng Department of Basic Education, deputy chief education specialist, Thato Kekana, said they are happy that Telkom is giving back to communities.
She said the netball court will be donated to the school next month.
“This will not only benefit the school but the community at large. We know that they will take care of it,” she said.
