A DARK cloud has covered the local entertainment industry once again.
And hardly a week after hip-hop star Riky Rick was buried, fans learnt about the death of businessman and hip-hop DJ, Dimplez.
Born Tumi Mooi, Dimplez was well-known for producing and working with hip-hop stars and hosting the event Pop Bottles in Cape Town, Rustenburg, Durban and Joburg.
According to a source, the DJ, who was from Diepkloof in Soweto, collapsed at a secret Barcardi house party on Saturday night.
He was later rushed to hospital.
“DJ Dimplez, who’s real name is Tumi Mooi, collapsed while he was at a gig in Barcadi,” said a close friend.
Confirming his passing, his family released a statement, saying: “Boitumelo Athiel Mooi, popularly known as DJ Dimplez, passed away on 6 March 2022 after a sudden brain hemorrhage.

The news of his passing sent shock waves across social media.
Nikiwe Khoza said on Twitter: “To say I’m shocked would be a understatement. I don’t understand how people are dying like flies, something is wrong in celebville. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
Dimplez was not only one of Mzansi’s loved hip-hop artists, he was also a blessing to some artists who needed a way up in the entertainment industry.
Sbo sent condolences to his family and said the DJ gave him a chance to perform at the Pop Bottles main stage.
“I’m shocked to say the least,” he said.
Senzo Maseko said this was one of the most humble DJs he’d ever seen.
“Heaven has definitely gained an angel. He’s touched some of our hearts. May his soul rest in peace,” he said.
Selina Mahlangu tweeted: “We’re barely three months in and yet SA hip hop has lost Citi Lyts, Riky Rick and now DJ Dimplez. This is really hard to take. May their souls rest in peace.”
Dimplez’s last song, Kub’hlungu featuring Phantom Steeza, Touchline, Jillz and Zandii J, was released in April last year.
