SHE has been advocating for her culture and language for years.
Embracing it through music and events, singer and songwriter Candy Tsamandebele Mokwena wanted her culture to be more recognised and appreciated.
After Mzansi Magic announced their new night prime time drama, Queen Modjadji, inspired by the Balobedu legendary rainmaker, the first Queen Modjadji, Candy couldn’t help but share her excitement.
The singer said she was happy when she heard about the upcoming show.
“I was so surprised many people sent me screenshots of the adverts. It's all happiness. I'm very excited and looking forward to seeing how it is.
"It's a major and big thing,” she said.
The 52-year-old singer from Bolobedu in Limpopo said they've made history through music and shows about their culture.
“Our language is not in the books or as an official language, but people see the importance of embracing it. I'm over the moon. Call me Donald,” she joked.

Candy said that she'll be dropping new music, and her fans should look forward to it.
She said since they're already international with Balobedu music, she believes even the show will do well.
“It will be viewed by millions. I can’t wait to see the Rain Queen."
She said she has always wanted to put her hometown on the map.
“Bolobedu is my home. It holds great memories of my childhood. It’s where my heart is and will always be one of my favourite areas."
MultiChoice Group CEO for general entertainment, Nomsa Philiso, said bringing Queen Modjadji to their audiences meets their desire for television entertainment drawn from their heritage, and it also flows seamlessly into their plans to create a catalogue of drama series made in African languages.
“Queen Modjaji comes hot off the trail of Shaka Ilembe, which was a global phenomenon and very much an expression of the MultiChoice’s strategy to drive home-grown, authentic African storytelling,” she said.
