The DStv Premiership is back! As the 2023/24 season of the DStv Premiership reached the halfway mark before the start of the Africa Cup of Nations, football lovers were once again treated to some countless thrills and spills of our local league.

Defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns kick started their league campaign where they left off last season, with an impressive winning streak that saw them head to the break undefeated, winning 12 of their matches and only held twice and determined to win seven titles in a row for the first time in their history. The chasing pack behind Sundowns, made up of the competitive Cape Town City and SuperSport United, are both 9 points behind the log leaders, as well as Stellenbosch FC lying in 4th position on the log, have surprisingly thrived and as one of the most exciting sides, while they continue churning out talent from their academy in the Winelands.

Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, who are slightly off the pace to Sundowns, both occupying 5th and 6th positions on the log standings, will need to show some signs of improvement when the second round starts to challenge for positions further up on the log.

One fixture that will see diski fans remain in the grip of football fever following the end of the AFCON will be the much-anticipated league clash between Sundowns and Pirates at the Loftus stadium, on Saturday, 17th February 20h00 kickoff. It is always an enthralling, sold out clash when these to teams meet.

At the other end of the table, the battle to avoid relegation threatens to suck teams into trouble as games start running out, unless they shape up soon. Bottom of the log Cape Town Spurs have not had a rosy return to top flight football and will need to hugely improve to arrest their slump of poor results and performances. Nearest relegation rivals to Spurs, Richards Bay, need to recover from their poor start and to climb the table in the second round.

Off the field, diski fans will be thrilled to see the return of the league sponsor’s exciting AmaFanDayz campaign, when the Buccaneers host Amakhosi at the FNB stadium on the 9th March.  The campaign has seen nine (9) lucky local football fans win their share of R1.3 Million to date. During the activated AmaFanDayz DStv Premiership matches, a lucky football fan who scores a penalty kick against a DStv Star will  be crowned Fan of the Match  and win the R100 000 prize money or double their winnings to R200 000 for simply being an active DStv Compact subscriber.

Following this activated fixture, there will be 7 more matches that will take place in Durban, Pietermaritzburg, Gqeberha, Nelspruit, Cape Town and Tshwane, where fans can still stand a chance to win before the season concludes in May.

To enter the competition on match day, fans are encouraged to get their match tickets then visit the DStv activation zone inside the. Once inside the stadium, fans are encouraged to sign up with DStv promoters to stand a chance to be one of three participants in the sudden death penalty shootout at halftime.

Football fever is also alive on DStv Compact, with the exciting new telenovela Champions, which premiered on 5 February and airs at 19:00 on Mzansi Magic (Channel 191). Champions is set in the highy competitive football world and promises intrigue, drama, twists and lots of action.

With over 400 live football games being broadcast during February and March, football fever has kicked into high gear at DStv, the home of Diski. Football lovers are encouraged to sign up to DStv Access and DStv Compact today so they can get in on the  twists and thrills.
