Matthew Lani claimed he went to Cambridge International College, but the institution tells a different story.

THE doors are closing in for the alleged fake doctor Matthew Lani.

More and more organisations have distanced themselves from him and said they don't have him in their system.

Matthew has been trending on social media because people are accusing him of being a fake doctor.

Cambridge International College, from which he claims he got a scholarship from at high school, has denied having enrolled in their school.

"It has come to the attention of Cambridge International College that there are claims circulating regarding Mr. Matthew Zingelwa-Lani's affiliation with our institution. We wish to categorically state that Mr. Matthew Zingelwa-Lani has never been enrolled at Cambridge International College, and his name does not appear in our official registers for any period. Cambridge International College places the utmost importance on the integrity of its academic records and the credibility of the qualifications obtained by its students. We hereby vehemently deny any suggestion or statement asserting that Mr. Matthew Zingelwa-Lani holds any qualification from our institution,” the statement read.

The Department of Health also revealed that they opened a criminal case against him for impersonating a medical doctor.

"The Gauteng Department of Health (GDOH) today opened a case of impersonating a medical doctor at the Brixton Police Station in Brixton following reports of a so-called 'Dr Matthew Lani' who had assumed various pseudo medical roles falsely presenting himself as an employee of the department.

"Lani managed to weave his way into the system pretending to be in the employ of Helen Joseph Hospital where he moved around the hospital corridors curating content for social media," the department said.

The department had also worked with Matthew Lani in 2022, but they said they didn’t know he wasn’t a real doctor.

"On 16 June 2022, the GDOH ran a campaign across its facilities as part of Youth Month commemorations where many young medical professionals were asked to send in their video clips on what it means for them to be born-frees (born after 1994). Lani was one of the participants, and this was the only time the department ever worked with him. At the time there was nothing that raised suspicion that he was not a person in the employ of the facility," they said.

On Monday, 9 October the Health Professions Council of South Africa and Wits University released statements also dissociating themselves from him.

Matthew still stands by the fact that he is a doctor.

"People do not use my real name to verify me. I have also taken legal advice on this matter and filed my documents with the HPCSA and other bodies.

"The only thing I did was to protect my personal information like name and use a name on social media. But everyone thinks it is my real name and just lies," he said.

He also claimed that the drama has affected his mental health.

"I have not eaten or slept in the last three days and it's all because of this. I just want this to be over so I can move on with my life,” Matthew said.
