WHAT started out as a match making hashtag UmjoloWithAzola on Twitter has now expanded into event organising.

Azola Mlota, the brains behind the love movement, told Daily Sun that he started it in 2018 to help single people find their soulmates.

The hashtag is one of the biggest topics every Sunday and Monday in Mzansi.

He said he teamed up with Tanya Dube of Dynasty Digital and they decided in 2022 to expand the brand into events. This was after the success of their last event, titled The Singles Meet Up.

"We started by asking Twitter users to simply post their pictures and their ideal partners with the hashtag #umjolowithazola. This evolved into our own weekly Twitter space, where we engage our audience in real time. Events and radio features on various national broadcasters," said Azola.

He said this year's event, themed Umjolo with Azola Fest Market, will be held on Saturday, 1 April at Idle Winds in Joburg.

Azola said attendees will enjoy music from DJ Miss Pru, as well as other DJs.

"I want people to appreciate love. We have been through a lot as Mzansi. We just had Covid19 and we need to come together and appreciate each other," he said.

He said people should look forward to fun giveaways sponsored by Ster-Kinekor.
