CONGRATULATIONS are in order for newly-married actress Asavela Mngqithi, who recently became part of the Mqokiyane family in the Eastern Cape.

According to her, she was given a new name and new surname by her in-laws.

From now on she will be called Kwande Mqokiyane.

Asavela, who played Ntwenhle on Isibaya, announced the news on her Instagram page.

“On Friday I officially became Mrs Mqokiyana. My in-laws have given me a new name. They call me Kwande, which means growth of the family, love and health.”

In another post, she wrote: “This time last week, two families were officially united. You can now call me Mrs.”

The posts were accompanied by photos of herself in amajalimani (new makoti outfit) and inyongo in her traditional black doek.

Judging from the photos, she’s still in Bizana doing her new makoti duties known as ukukotiza.

Fans and industry friends took turns in congratulating her.

Fellow actress Lerato Mvelase wrote: “My baby, God be your lamp in your journey. You are loved by me.”

Masasa Mbangeni said: “Makoti, hayi you have taught me as a big sister that if I want to get lobola’ed, I must just post hands. Congratulations baby.”

Mapresh wrote: “I honestly thought you were joking when you posted and said, ‘Ksasa ngo 4am ngiyatshada, sorry to inform you late,’ kanti you were serious. Congratulations girl.”
