AKA’s fans celebrate despite loss at the awards

RAPPER Kiernan “AKA” Forbes was hailed as a winner by his followers.

His song, Lemons (Lemonade), was nominated in the category of Best Hip Hop at the Sound City MVP Awards.

He was up against Black Sherif, Blaqbones, Mi, Psycho YP, Ladipoe, Wakadinali, Chyn, as well as Vector.

Sadly, AKA didn’t win. Black Sherif scooped the award.

But this did not stop AKA’s fans from celebrating him. They took to Instagram and celebrated his music success.

The fifth instalment of Sound City MVP Awards was held at Eko Convention Centre in Lagos, Nigeria on Saturday, 11 February.

AKA died the night before, on Friday night, in Durban, KZN.

South African media personality Pearl Thusi was the host of the event, while Master KG, Nkosazana Daughter and Blaq Diamond performed.

A handful of local artists, including Msaki, Daliwonga, Black Coffee and more were also nominated in various categories.

DJ Maphorisa won DJ of the Year, and Costa Stitch scooped Viewers’ Choice Award.
