ACTRESS and performer, Frances Ndlazilwana has passed away at the age 89.
The Joburg-based actress died on Wednesday, 28 February, around 8am.
The actress's death was announced by her grandson, Mbulelo Katise, on his Facebook page on Thursday, 29 February.
"On 28 February 2024 at approximately 8pm, we lost an icon, a pillar, Frances Ndlazilwana, known to me as gogo and to others as a mother, a grandmother, a great grandmother."
He said there were not enough words to express how much she meant to all of them. Mbulelo said her grandma changed and touched the hearts and lives of so many people within her community and family.

He further said Francis gave selflessly and loved passionately and has left a legacy and a light that will never dim her work in the arts and acting Industry.
Mbulelo said Frances shaped and nurtured so many talents and showed her own talent as an actress in multiple TV shows, commercials and films for decades.
"You changed my life in so many ways and helped me at such a tender age to discover my gift of acting that I now get to share with the world many years later. At 89, you departed peacefully from this world, and we know that you'll watch over us now as our guardian angel," he said.
"We love you always and will miss you dearly, and we celebrate the wonderful life you lived. Lala ngoxolo ntombi endala," he wrote.
Frances is best known for her role as Lydia Maema in the controversial 2007 mini-series After Nine, which aired on SABC1. She also appeared on the SABC2 drama series, Erfsondes.
