MZANSI has a new show on the way and it’s set to bring light to the lives of guests and viewers.

The show, which is called Sangoma, Khanyisa! will be hosted by media personality, Penny Lebyane and sangoma, Mkhulu Rametsi.

It will debut on Honey TV on Friday, 6 May.

Penny spoke to SunBuzz about the show and how it’ll help people.

“Every week, people come for a consultation with Mkhulu Rametsi and I facilitate their consultation. I have a chat with them about why they are on the show and what’s happening in their lives. They then go in and see Mkhulu, who consults with them and helps them with whatever they need. After the consultation, we look back and speak to them to find out if they recognised some of the things they heard from Mkhulu,” said Penny.

Penny, who is celebrating 28 years in the media industry, said for her, the show is about using her experience to help.

“I come from rural Bushbuckridge in Mpumalanga and I understand the dynamics and issues of this country. People consult us as much as they consult doctors and izangoma. In the last three years, people have been constantly looking for help,” she said.

“In the past years, I’ve studied how different churches work and I’ve also been following the rise of ubungoma and younger people getting into it. Part of my responsibility as a person in the media is to help people understand such things.

“I sit in this position because I qualify. I understand the issues of South Africans and the desperation and the pain that they go through.”

Penny said that they finished shooting the first season.

“We just finished the first season and what I can say about it is that there’s a bigger conversation about ubungoma outside of the show, and it’s a conversation that must be had,” said Penny.

Catch Penny on Sangoma, Khanyisa! on Honey (DStv channel 173) every Friday at 6pm.
