TALENTED Skeem Saam actor Oros Mampofu is on his way to stardom!
“SABC1 has one of the biggest television audiences. My life is no longer mine because I get recognised by fans all over, but I’m not complaining,” he said.
The young actor from East London, who got his first television role in the SABC1 drama series Kowethu, said he was blessed to find work straight after graduating.
“Acting and the creative arts are not always seen as serious career choices.
“So when I graduated from the school of motion pictures and live performance in 2013 I was happy to start getting work immediately,” he said.
He added that since playing the role of Thabo Maputla’s university room-mate in Skeem Saam, he is getting even more recognition from fans.
He said his character Jama is mischievous, but not as bad as Emkay.
Like his on-screen character, he also enjoys culture and lives by the morals he sets for himself.
“I’m chilled, but my foundation is church and treating everyone with respect.
“I also have great respect for my job because it takes long hours to prepare before people can see the end product,” he said.
The actor said he was named after the soft drink called Oros, because he looked like the Oros man when he was born.
“I was big and had the Oros man’s chubby cheeks.”
Though he is slim now, he said he never gets tired of telling people how he was named because he loves the story behind his name.
“I want to be the greatest I can be in my chosen career and am hoping to launch my international career soon.”
Oros is featured on Bet’s Top Actors South Africa, a reality show searching for the country’s most talented actor who will get the opportunity to launch an internation career.
