AMAPIANO producer and DJ, Kabza De Small, is embroiled in a legal battle with his manager and record label boss, Marcelo MJ.
Kabza (real name Kabelo Motha) has allegedly abandoned Marcelo MJ (real name Josia Mphono), the owner of Mphono Solutions and Bestbyfar Records.
According to sources, Kabza left Marcelo’s stable last year.
This after he was approached by award-winning producer, DJ Maphorisa whose real name is Sonnyboy Sekowe pouched him.
Marcelo confirmed filing legal papers against Kabza for breach of contract.
Said Marcelo: “I’m not at liberty to discuss the paperwork, but I can confirm Kabza and I have worked together for the past three years.
“It’s a pity now that he’s taking the music industry by storm, there are sharks who are out to make money out of him.
“I’ve warned those who wanted to steal Kabza away from me that we have to talk because I have a contract with him.”
Marcelo said Kabza owed his company four albums. after they signed an 18 months contract.
“I’m going the legal route because I’m done being civil with them,” Marcelo said.
The law will prove that there is nothing they can do without me because we have a contract with Kabza. If he wants to leave my stable, he must buy himself out of it because I have invested a lot of money in his brand, “ he said.
The third source said that it was a shame that Kabza was not willing to sit down with Marcelo.
“I guess they are true when they say money changes people. Marcelo has been with Kabza when nobody believed in his amapiano music, now that amapiano are recognized all over the country he is starting to look down on Marcelo,” the source said.
Kabza told the SunTeam “my comment is reserved”.
What matters worse is the fact that Kabza’s bookings are no longer being done by Mphono Solutions, by they are now done by Maphorisa’s stable.”DJ Maphorisa wasn’t available for comment.
Katlego Malatji said he represents both Kabza and DJ Maphorisa separately.
Said Katlego: “There are no terms of a contract with BestByFar, as there’s no existing agreement between them and Kabza.
“Any contracts that may have existed have since lapsed and ceased to be of any effect.”
He said Kabza owed nothing to BestByFar, least of which is an album.
